"Future Foods"
Scientists and food technologists are mixing and matching chemicals from plants to design new foods. These "phytochemicals" can markedly reduce incidence of chronic ills. It may sound like science fiction, but "phytofoods" are already becoming available to us in various forms, such as the powerful phytochemical soy isolate

Exciting Studies
An article in U.S. News & World Report states; "A flurry of research suggests that soybeans are more than just a rich source of plant protein. In the test tube, and in some animals, certain substances found in soybeans prevent or slow the growth of cancer.
The magic bullet in soybeans could be genistein, a crystalline substance with no nutritive value. Found almost exclusively in soybeans, it has become a hot research subject. More than 200 scientific papers on genistein's possible role in cancer prevention have been published since 1987. Among the most intriguing is a German study in the April 1993 Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, which found that, in the test tube, genistein blocks angiogenisis, the process in which new blood vessels grow - and which is needed to nourish
malignant tumors.
The German research feeds speculation that genistein may be one dietary substance that explains the difference in some cancer rates between the United States and Asia".

NEWS Flash

FDA acknowledges the role of soy in reducing the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). [DOCID:fr26oc99-21]

The Food and Drug Administration is authorizing the use, on food labels and in food labeling, of health claims on the association between soy protein and reduced risk of coronary heart disease based on its careful review of evidence that soy protein included in a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of Coronary Heart Disease.

About Soybeans

More nutritional research offers details about soybean's other phytochemical protectants, which include:

Protease Inhibitors prevent activation of certain genes that cause cancer. These valuable phytochemicals may inhibit cancers of the colon, lung, pancreas, mouth and esophagus.

Phenolic Acids & Saponins are antioxidants that prevent cellular DNA from being attacked by carcinogens.

Lecithin is a natural fat emulsifier, which means it helps fats to be digested and absorbed more efficiently. Soy lecithin can also have a favorable effect on the way people's bodies metabolize cholesterol.

Essential Amino Acids are the building blocks of life. They replenish cells, strengthen immune response, stabilize blood sugar, increase metabolic rate, assist in the breakdown of fats, suppress the appetite and perform numerous other functions.

Isoflavones are plant estrogens, which exhibit very powerful anti-cancer effects in hormone-related cancers such as prostate, ovarian, cervical and breast cancers.
